Just as i expected, it was really refreshing to read something so deep and yet so light and easy ! Usually facts on spiritual path seem complicated with confusing words and explanations but here, Deepak Chopra simply used their pet dog as an inspiration to explain spirituality with a sense of humor that will leave a smile on your face everytime you turn a page. I started reading the book on a saturday...and finished it by sunday. I must have been reading for hours...through the night and afternoon...just loved it ! And ohh i have to mention this...theres a whole chapter on Deepak ,his son Gautham and their dog with Michael Jackson !! Loved that chapter :)
Heres a part i love ...
The son Gautham asks " do you think Cleo ( the dog ) truly understands the concept of love?" and the father (Deepak Chopra) replies " No, and thats what makes it so powerful ."
It made me think , how true !!! We human beings are preconditioned about what "love" is about , caring for each other, sacrificing our own needs, buying gifts, spending time , saying sweet things and so on. But what does a dog do ! It loves you unconditionally....Whether you buy them toys or not, whether you spend time playing with them or not, whether you take them for walks or not, whether you let them in the house or keep them outside , no matter what you do, it wags its tail and comes running to you when it sees you anytime :) Where else can you find such pure love ?? And its pure simply because it doesnt know the word "LOVE" but only knows how it feels....So how about we forget about "love" and just live with what we feel...i am sure our hearts are always filled with nothing but love. Its just that sometimes ( or most of the times) we contaminate it with everything else...
Heres another part i love ...
" A fish doesnt try to swim, it just does. A bird doesnt try to fly, it just does. You dont try to walk, you just do. "
And again i was thinking....how true is that !!...if we were suppose to start walking only when we grew up, most of us might still be "planning" to walk instead of already walking because we would come up with all the excuses like, ohh i am thinking if i should walk since i fell down the first time i tried, its too dangerous, or i saw someone trip and fall as they walked , so i think it would be better if i dont start walking yet....or maybe i should ask those who are already walking well for some tips before i start walking myself or because my parents said i am not ready to walk yet, or worst, maybe i should browse the net for you tube on videos showing step by step how to begin walking...hahahahaha can you imagine it ??? seriously isnt that what we do when we attempt anything else in life??....thinking and doubting ourselves and being afraid of failing! What if we JUST DID IT ! How much would we have accomplished by now ?? Arent you glad we didnt think so much as toddlers? Or else we might still be crawling around "planning to walk" !!
And the first thing i read on the inside of the cover of the book was A QUOTE
" IF IT WASN'T FOR DOGS, SOME PEOPLE WOULD NEVER GO FOR WALKS"
Walk on your path no matter what comes your way, climb it, jump over or roll if you have to...but lets just keep walking! And as i say this i am reminded of a part from the Bible which ive read sometime ago...
He Said, "Come." So Peter got out of the boat and started walking on water, and came towards Jesus. But when he noticed the strong wind, and became frightened, and beginning to sink, he cried out, "Lord, save me!" Jesus immediately reached out his hand and caught him, saying to him,
"You of little faith, why did you doubt?"
(Matthew 14:29-31)
