Walking Wisdom -Part ONE :)

Ive always enjoyed walking. When i was 6 years old, on days my grandpa couldnt come fetch me with his bicycle , my mother will walk me to the kindergarten which took about 20 mins through some lalang bushes and dirt path. But i never sulked whenever i needed to walk with her. I enjoyed it just as much as i enjoyed the ride sitting on grandpa's bicycle. The sound of the wheels and the wind brushing my cheeks. Hmm gosh i loved it...And one afternoon, after school i was waiting for my grandpa to come fetch me but on that day it so happened that he was delayed. All the other children had left and i was left waiting alone in front of my kindy. And guess what i did, i thought no one was going to come fetch me that day so i decided to walk back myself. I didnt cry, or panic. No one here to fetch? ...ok then, i walk back ....simple !  :)

Carrying my school bag ( which looked like a basket actually ) i started walking, crossed the main road in front of my kindy which was pretty wide and dangerous for a 6 years old for sure !!! And coolly i walked through the lalang bushes for 20 mins , and reached my housing area which is well known for its identical paths and houses, also with endless turns to left and right before you would get to your house. But i actually remembered it so well that i never stopped anywhere to think. ( I do wish my sense of direction was that good now)

When it was about 10 mins away from my house, a neighbour saw me walking alone and asked " where are you going alone ma" and i confidently answered " Thatha ( grandpa ) didnt come so i walking back home myself" :):) hahahaha.....can you just imagine a 6 years old girl walking through bushes and main roads for 20 mins by herself?? Yes that was me then .....and of course i will never forget the look on my poor terrified grandpa who came rushing to the house after looking for me at the kindy (please remember there was no phones those days...no, not even a land line in my house !!) so imagine the panic !! when he got home , and saw me running out from the house...he was soo relieved and also angry that i didnt just wait for him. I was pretty puzzled at what was the big deal ?? Ive walked with my mom before, so why cant i walk back myself ? Hmm hahaha...now i can only be thankful to the safe environment those days. It wasnt that dangerous , apart from stray dogs or snakes maybe ( a very rare case ), nothing really bad could have happened then. I sometimes wish it is as safe for children nowadays..

So that was my first "walking" incident. And what i learnt from it is that, our instincts guides us perfectly if we do not doubt or fear ! Otherwise its impossible for 6 years old girl to know when to cross the main road and which turns to take back home.

Then of course the 3 years of campus !! Gosh we walked and walked and walked ..it was neverending. And thanks to the beautiful landscape of my campus which goes up and down hill like every 5 mins :)

But none of us sulked...again, coz these walks were usually filled crazy chats and laughters with friends. So, we were never tired, even under the blazing sun, or the rain, even in the dark after night classes. We are always looking foward to walking back to our hostel coz our friends would be back and waiting for more chats and laughs....

Then, the very interesting yearly walks with family were during Thaipusam in Ipoh. We walked from home , leaving about 3 or 4 am with brothers , sisters, cousins and parents. And we walk barefooted for about 45 mins to reach the temple. And the funny thing is we sometimes walk back home after the prayers ...another 45 mins back and by now the sun is up and blazing. We did wander why on earth didnt we bother just getting a cab back home ??? I guess probably coz again, it was so much fun that we didnt even feel tired.

Apart from these walks, mom and i use to walk to the market, carrying bags of vegetables back home, again under the blazing sun and again we could have taken a cab home :):) but we just enjoyed it....and we (mom and i) still do it, whenever i go home to Ipoh. We walk in the mornings to have breakfast at the nearby chinese restaurants, or to the Pasar Tani or even to uncle's and aunty's houses which are all about 10 to 15 mins walk away. And ohh ive got mention that all these walking habit must have come from my Dad who NEVER misses his daily walks for as long as i could remember....till now.

And once i got married and came to KL, Nantha and i started walking again, but just for fun and exercise at the Lake gardens and also Gasing hill.

So, to think of it, ive been walking quite a lot, and still love it as much as i did before. And Now, thanks to my puppy , i am loving the walks with him ....and i could see that he loves it just as much ! :):)

Erm ...well why i started this whole walking story was, to explain why i got attracted to this book " Walking Wisdom " hehhee hope i didnt bore you ! just as i expected, it was really an interesting read ! I will share about the book in my next post !!

Till then....do go for a walk :):)

Happy new year !!!

Its 2013 ! And its also the 5th year since i started writing here..Wow ! thats quite unbelievable really. When i started writing...i thought i wouldnt last even a few months as i would run out of stuff to share. But i managed to go on somehow...

Sometimes i kind of treat my blog as a diary, just to record moments i wish to cherish. So i could come back to read it myself ( well,  i think i read my blog more than others do :)) hahaha..still its fun keeping a record of our thoughts and be surprised at ourselves !

Apart from being a diary, its been a good place to share about the books i read. I tend to pick books that would be interesting to discuss in my blog like biographies and true events. Its true that when i start writing a review about the books i read...i tend to think further than just the plain story line. It helps me to bring out the essence of the story , the hidden meanings and the lessons learnt from it. In other words, sharing about books enhances my knowledge and makes me think a step further. So its kind of motivates me to read more and more.

So, this year i am determined to write about more books than the previous years. Currently am reading an interesting book called Walking Wisdom. Its a true story about the famous Deepak Chopra , his son , grandson and dog ! Its pretty interesting and entertaining. I am halfway through it now. So stay tuned for the next post on it !! :) Cant wait to talk about this book really...so much to discuss !

Wishing you all a great year ! Stay happy ! and keep it simple !!

HAPPY NEW YEAR !!!!
