SUPPORT FREE RANGE & HUMANE FARMING

Theres always something we can do ...no matter how small the impact...but choosing to ignore injustice is the most disastrous outcome we could bring to the world. We refuse to even watch videos of animals being tortured...because its disturbing...so we make an easy decision ...IGNORE ! SO... its ok as long as we DONT SEE it ????

Then why dont we IGNORE the earthquakes....tsunamis...tornados...flash floods...and volcano eruptions...? We still sit glued to the TV or Computer screen ...watching...and giving remarks such as..." OHH...dear GOD...WHY??, poor people...how horrific..!" and so on.....we dare watch it coz we believe those things are all ACT OF GOD...so we dont feel guilty watching them...we dont take the blame...and we cant stop it from happening...! thats why we DARE watch and speak about it openly...

But when it comes to ANIMAL FACTORY FARMING...most people act oblivious to it....coz they know that theres something EACH and every one of us could do to stop it....but we CHOOSE NOT TO !...and thus to avoid the Guilt ....we IGNORE...after all....the animals Cant SPEAK....so who would know...?

I beg to those of you who are reading this....here are a few of the smallest changes we can make....

- Eat MORE vegetable in a week...if you cant be totally vegetarian...coz when the demand is reduced...this madness will also be reduced!

- Stop consuming ONE type of meat that you can live without...at least start with shark fin's soup, then Ham or bacon or anything at all...

- Educate your children about how to support FREE RANGE FARMING

And above all....HAVE MERCY ! ACT like HUMAN.....is that so hard ! !?

If you have no idea what factory farming is....please google for you tube videos or link to Pig Gestation Crates / Factory Dairy Production / Battery farming....as i will not provide those horrific links here as i dont want children watching it by any chance....for its extremely disturbing...

We totally depend on the younger generation to make the change...so create the awareness by helping them make the right and humane choices while they are still young . And also to avoid more and more adults choosing factory farming as the means for earning in the future.

Look at the loving glances of these animals....please say if they deserve to be treated this way ?

Are u Just One Person ?

Can one person make a difference....how many times have we felt...." ahh i wish i could do something about that " when we watch documentaries about the dangers faced by Amazon jungle...when we read about sharks being thrown half alive bleeding into the ocean after cutting its fin off simply for a bowl of soup....when we see children starving all over the world...when we see poverty eating people alive....turtles choking on plastic bags......all we think is...gosh thats too big a problem for me to handle as ONE person...what can i do ?? i wont make a difference...i dont have the POwer to do to anything....

But sadly we fail to see that ....ONE person CAN make a difference....say one person stops buying shark fin soup....and the market needs one fish less each month....then we have saved 12 sharks in a year....and if theres 100 X "One" person making the decision...then does it make a difference at least ??

If One person decides to free ONE pair of bird from the pet shops...ONCE a MONTH....there are 12 pairs of FREE birds in a year....and if theres 100 X ONE person doing that.....worth it ???

If ONE person feeds ONE child from a poor family.......and there are 100 people doing that....have we not saved 100 children...? Isnt that a big thing ?

SO r we ONE person after all...?

MOTHER THERESA said
" IF U CANT FEED A HUNDRED ...THEN FEED JUST ONE "

We dont have to be Mark Zuckerberg....or Warren Buffet to start making a change....in fact there a fewer billionaires than the rest of us combined....we can make a bigger impact if only we realise we could.....

1 Million X ONE person may change
the entire world in a day

In fact...i wont be writing this here if i dont believe it will make any difference...i dont even know if anyone reads my blog.....but if in the least ONE person came across this blog...and decided to do something ....i am happy :)

SO....look around you...theres always someone in need...something to change...something to add on....something to be stopped.....do anything at all....and start believing that it will make a difference...truth is
...it DOES :)

The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind

If this book doesn't inspire us ...then possibly nothing else could :)

Breakfast ...lunch ..or Dinner ??? Which would u choose if u could only afford ONE meal per day !

Born in the year 1988...in a magical land which was still trapped in a world that was ruled by ghosts of trees such as the Gule Wamkulu ,
"the spirits of their dead ancestors, resurrected from the afterworld and sent to roam the earth. No longer human, they shared the skin of animals, and their faces resembled the beast of hell - twisted devil birds and demons howling in fright.."
A boy named William Kamkwamba was not even afraid of the cobras or lions when walking through the forest ...but his greatest fear was the Gule Wamkulu !

Here...we are not talking about 1000 years ...but simply as near as 20 years ago ( just take a moment to imagine how your world was at that time ....anything close ??!!i guess not ) While the rest of the world was speeding through science and technology ...Gule Wamkulu ruled the life of a boy in a village called Masitala in Dowa , a small town perched high in the hills of MALAWI. A country which was then under the control of Hastings Kamuzu Banda a powerful dictator who ruled for more than THIRTY years ! He was the first leader of the country after British rule and stayed on in power like forever... !

Williams family was all dependant on his fathers farm, growing Maize ( White corn ) and William was 9 years old when he was being bullied and humiliated in school everyday...while we would have come home crying to our parents or just try complaining to the teachers...William day dreamed of possessing superpowers... imagining himself a Goliath on the football pitch , with legs like rocket launchers. So he decides to accept "Mangolomera" a form of magic that delivered superhuman strength believed to be a kind of vaccine against weakness ! Gets a friend to do the rituals which involves cutting his knuckles with a razor ! he waits 3 days for the magic to work ...then tries fighting with one of those bullies but ended up with sore eyes...! the magic didn't work !! and he was utterly disappointed of course...little did he know that he had a genius within him waiting to be unleashed...who was capable of bringing light and life to his entire village...little did he know he will be recognized by Desmond Tutu or Al Gore ....he had not even seen an electrical switch board then ! Only luxury in the village was a battery powered radio...and people of the village goes to bed by 7pm...simply because darkness falls ...with no tv...no lights....no fans...you might as well sleep !

Now i am sure you have a rough idea of how life must have been for this 9 years old.....all magical, mystical....and super natural... and extremely humble....but then that was not even the problem....because at least they were not starving then....Williams father earned enough to feed his family and to send William to school too....but then it didn't last....

Farmers over there were all dependant on rain...if the rain fails to provide the needs of the crops in time then you are in trouble....especially when the corrupted government isn't able to come to the rescue...

in the year 2000...while the rest of the world hyped about welcoming the new millennium...organized parties and countdowns to new years...and worried about the computers systems crashing ! Malawi was simply longing for the rain in December which finally came ....but a little too much that it ended up washing away homes and livestock along with the seedlings that had just begun to grow. By then the country had a new President who vowed to assist every farmer with "starter packs" that contained 2 kilos of maize seed and 5 kilos of fertiliser but not surprisingly failed to deliver it to the farmers due to corruption in the system.

" what will happen to us next year papa" asked William to his father

"I don't know. But at least we are not alone. Its happening to everyone" said his father.

And soon it led to this.....Williams father calls for a family meeting... sitting at their humble hut....his father says....we have to go down to ONE meal per day from tomorrow...and we have to decide on which one to take.... One says...breakfast...one says lunch....but finally the father decides.....

" NO It will be supper....so that no one has to sleep with an empty stomach...and when we wake up in the morning we have a motivation to go on...knowing we have food for supper "

Now...have we made such decisions in our lives...? And let me say that even that one meal they decided on is not sufficient to have as individual servings...they have to put it in ONE big bowl and make sure each child and parent scoop the right amount so everyone gets equal share...and as always the parents prefers to take the smallest scoops...letting the children have a little more...and the youngest one doesn't understand the situation and usually takes a bigger scoop....and you don't have the heart to stop her....but you are also hungry for more....knowing the next meal would not come in 24 hours....and eating pumpkin leaves was luxury !! and to make things worst ...they had a dog to feed...and while the dog is watching ..hungry...and growing weak...day after day ,William has to be strong enough to be able to eat his share...letting his lovable dog starve right before his eyes....but...how could you cry for a dog...when the entire village is starving to death....and you are growing thinner and weaker yourself day by day? Friends, relatives , neighbours and children...dying one by one.... yes ...officially a country in FAMINE....

" The starving people didn't say much. It was as if they were already dead, yet still looking to fill their stomachs."

By now he was not going to school because the father couldn't afford to pay the school fee...and William was still hungry for education...so he walks to the village library to read himself so that he is not left out when and if at all he is able to go to school again....he mostly reads Physics...learns about electric..batteries....wires...connections....windmills...generators and so on....all by himself and he gets very interested in this field.

Okay....this was LIFE for William...when a simple bicycle DYNAMO caught his attention...!!He was curious as to why the lights of the bicycle stays on when the wheels are moving and stops when wheels stops....how does the dynamo work ?? If a dynamo and wheel could bring light...why cant i use the same to bring light to my home....? or to listen to radio...? These were the questions that eventually led him to build a windmill and bringing light to his home ! And bare in mind that...he used the weirdest of things which he collected ONE at a time from the scrapyard....motors of tractors ...tins...planks....bicycle wheels....chains...nuts and bolts...he spend so much time at the scrapyard...that people of the village started calling him a madman...collecting garbage ...he was laughed at...humiliated....and his parents were disappointed at his behaviour.....but his father decides to give him a chance partly coz he also felt guilty he wasn't able to send him to school....
And eventually....the boy succeeded..! the entire village watched him while he demonstrated how his windmill worked....and when the lights came ....the village was stunned as well as puzzled as they had no idea how it even worked !!

Yes i thought this was the MOST inspiring story i have known simply because when human beings are denied of the VERY basic needs like FOOD..most of us would just be crushed both physically , mentally and spiritually....but this amazing boy had not only IGNORED the hunger and pain but simply directed his attention to something he LOVED doing...his dream to build the windmill was his food !! He desire to prove himself was his energy...his determination and confidence was his shield against the humiliations and then ....of course he MADE it !

When i was done reading this book i could only tell myself this ....WE HAVE NO EXCUSE to stop chasing our dreams...so just get up and go ...the world will bring all you need to get there...no matter how ! :)

check out these links for more about this amazing boy !

Its February ???

Hello hello....wait a min...i just wished happy new year to all...and where did January go ?? hahaha...ohhh wait...yes...it went this way....

JANUARY

This time on new year i was back hometown with my parents....no big scale celebrations...but the usual...chat....cook ....eat.....chat ....laugh...cook, eat...watch the rain...have tea...chat again...dinner...chat again till pass midnight...and wake up to a new year...chatting and cooking again! ...hehehe...isnt that the BEST moments with moms and dads.....and to make it even interesting...it was raining everyday...so we were sitting at the porch...having a cup of tea....munching away some indian snacks my father "NEVER" fails to buy wen i am there...and screaming out to hear each other as the rain keeps drowning our voices....my brother was away...coaching his hockey team.....Nantha was away...to have a new year with his old friends as he had not celebrated new year with his friends since we got married.... !! so it was just me , mom and dad at home....simple but lovely !

Then i came to KL and started preparing for the PONGGAL ( Indian harvest celebrations) on 15 january...this time it fell on a saturday ! Great ! So called bout 10 friends over to share my sweet earthen pot cooked rice in fresh milk with lentils ( Picture above is the milk boiling and moments before i put in the rice !)...yeah everyone enjoyed (I hope :) the banana leaf vegetarian dinner ..and was around chatting till bout 11 something...lots of laughters as always.....then Nantha n i cleared up the pots and pans ...and slept off by 12 midnight...

Only special thing this year was....i had to have a PART 2 Ponggal....hehe yeah coz some of my friends were not around on the actual ponggal day.....so invited 3 of them on 18th Jan...for a mini ponggal dinner....this time i couldnt cook as much as the other day coz...it was a working day...and i had only about 2 hours to prepare everything....so made some capati , potato gravy with yogurt and some salad....but one of my friend Viji loved the potato in yogurt so much that she even requested me to make her the same dish again another day ! But as always...I DONT follow recipes ...its just a pinch of this ..and dash of that....whatever that works for the moment for me...! SO.....hmmm....do it again !?? erm ok i shall try to get as close as possible to it :) I hope i dont dissappoint her... :)

Then it was time for Thaipusam...it had been 2 years since i went back to Ipoh for Thaipusam so this year i just HAD to....missed it so much....so decided to take wed and friday off...took a bus home....and as always my cousins and i left at 3.30 am to walk with the milk offerings to the Gunung Cheroh Murugan temple...it was a beautiful dawn...with clear sky and magnificent full moon !.....as there were ( Amazingly !) NO queue at all to make the offerings we were done by 4.30 am, then had a lovely veg breakfast with coffee at the temple and came home by 5.30.!!.the earliest ever ! so..went back to bed...slept off till about 8 am....and later in the evening went to the temple again with mom, uncle, aunty and cousin Nithya ...watched some nice kavadis , bumped into some friends...did some shopping at the stalls around the temple..bought some Indian Sweets and devotional song CDs.....then decided to go home by 11 pm....so Thaipusam was satisfying ! :) came back to KL the next day as i had some urgent office matters to settle...

Hmmm...so i guess thats about it for January...simple ...sweet and fun !

And ohh....I read an awesome book in January ...an African story...and the most inspiring one...but i shall not give details here...i will post my review about this book soon ! :)

Look this way...

When you do not know how to be jealous....or to hold on to grudges....or to bother about what people might just think about you....when you never feel sorry for yourself at any point of your life....when you do not search endlessly for happiness.....when you never experienced disappointments....when you can smile without a reason.....when you are not expecting anything from anyone at all......when you dont even realise you are lonely....when you can see everything with ONE mindset....when all you need is some food....clothes and shelter....but you dont care what colors you are wearing for as long as you are not feeling cold....when life is about every moment....and you do not know theres an end to this world...then..........................

they call you Autistic......

isnt it strange....? ....we are perfect outside....and autistic within...while its the other way round for them.....God must have tried to cure us by turning some of us inside out...So be kind to these Real Human Beings....not by feeling sorry for them....but by learning from them the true human values....believe me....if we stay with them for a while....our inner voices will start speaking a little louder....

So.....nothing is totally bad in life....theres always something more meaningful to it...if only we see it that way....so ...

see something differently this coming new year....experience something new....feel something amazing....do something with love....go someplace in your imaginations .....try something crazy.....and just break away from the routine....

~~~HAPPY NEW YEAR ~~~
Happiness is ................
When the sun sets on your shoulders....................
When you have rain trees reaching out.............
When you see No END to the streams....
When light flows along....
When you have a millipede crossing over your fingers...
When you simply LET GO ..............................................
When you jump for joy !
AND above all....when you get it all in ONE day....ONE place....
Streams everywhere...turquoise blue butterflies....shimmering green dragon flies....rain trees reaching across for the lake....BEST friends...endless laughters.....roaring lions.....restless panthers....steaming delicious food........misty mountains....cold nights....serene waterfalls....humble town....millipede crossing your finger....monkeys on your way.....horses waiting for you...
It all sounds surreal ???
Believe it or not....you can have it all at Taiping,Perak...! Awesome place :)
2 weeks ago....a few friends and I went to stay at this simply lovely resort...Sentosa Villa...its in the midst of the hills...walking distance to a waterfall...5 mins drive to the Lake Gardens or the foot of Maxwell Hill....and also the ZOO....
Though we only stayed a night...it was totally satisfying...calm , serene...chill and peaceful...
So...if you want a quick get away with friends or family...this place is ideal with cheap delicious food too....BUT just a very humble reminder....if at all you decide to go to the night safari PLEASE DO NOT use FLASH PHOTOGRAPHY...and keep as quiet as possible while u are at it..these animals should be treated with respect...as they have lost their freedom for us...so lets at least be grateful in this way... :)
